Youth

The Philadelphia Compact Youth Committee

Our Mission

Under the direction of the Philadelphia Compact and the Department of Behavioral Health and Mental Retardation Services (DBH/MRS), this committee serves as a vehicle for the inclusion of Philadelphia’s youth in the development and implementation of behavioral health initiatives designed to de-stigmatize “behavioral health” and to promote the healthy social, emotional, and physical well-being of all of Philadelphia’s children.

Our Goals

  • To begin with the formation of a youth group – comprised of a diverse group of 12 to 15 Philadelphia males and females between the ages of 14 to 22
  • To engage Group Members in “specialized training” in preparation for youth led advocacy and mentoring programs, peer education presentations, and other community-based projects
  • To create future “youth programs” in schools and community-based organizations, with the focus on behavioral education and “de-stigmatization” (that means reducing the negative thoughts about mental health and treatment)
  • To advocate for youth and provide the “youth voice” to the Philadelphia Compact’s commitment to implementing positive reform to Children’s Behavioral Health
To promote “good citizenship” and provide positive role models for Philadelphia’s youth

Our Core Values
