ABOUT US | OUR VISION | OUR MISSION
Social and emotional health is essential to a well-functioning, productive city. Supporting the healthy social and emotional well-being, or positive behavioral health, of our children is a critical goal for Philadelphia and one that every citizen has an impact on and can play a role in achieving.
Children need adults to set boundaries, to praise them when they do well, and encourage them to do better when they struggle. Children need the adults in their lives (teachers, coaches, neighbors) to recognize when they might need extra help and to ensure that they get it. Children and families need to know that quality supports and services are available if they need them.
All must collaborate in this effort: families, communities, and systems. With the leadership of the Department of Behavioral Health and Mental Retardation Services and the Department of Human Services, and with the active participation of families, youth, providers, pediatricians, the faith community, academics, and the community at large. The Philadelphia Compact is designed to convene and sustain this collaborative.
