Family Member Storytelling

Family Member Story Telling Training (FM-STT) is a wellness and recovery-oriented training which recognizes that the stories of Family Members are a critical tool in moving Systems Transformation forward. Therefore, the Department of Behavioral Health/Mental Retardation Services, in conjunction with the Philadelphia Compact, are sponsoring (free) trainings especially for family members of children and/or adults who have received mental health (MH) and/or substance abuse (D&A) services in the City of Philadelphia. Resilience: What is It and How Can We Foster It

What is it that enables some people to experience a “positive adaptation” in the face of highly stressful, life-situations? How is it that some people, families or communities can develop the skills necessary to survive, and, even thrive, in very dysfunctional situations? This 5-hour workshop will look at resilience as a capacity in lives of people across the lifespan, with a special emphasis on children and adolescents. Current research on resilience, practical applications of resilience principles and the connection to other initiatives will be discussed.
